As many of you will know, Thurston Community College was recently inspected by Ofsted. I am pleased to confirm that the College has been graded “good” in every Ofsted category.
The inspection categories are:
- Effectiveness of leadership and management
- Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
- Personal development, behaviour and welfare
- Outcomes for pupils
- 16 to 19 study programmes
These five grades, combined with effective safeguarding and good provision for students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, mean that the overall effectiveness of Thurston Community College has been judged by Ofsted to be “good”, which is in agreement with our own judgements. The visit by the Inspection Team provided valuable external scrutiny of our provision and it was helpful to receive their endorsement of our strengths and areas for improvement.
I would like to thank all students and parents for taking the time to complete the Ofsted Surveys which I sent to you the day before the inspection. The Inspection Team were impressed by the number of responses and by the unity and strength of opinion from our stakeholders. Your comments made an important contribution to their overall findings.
The Ofsted report highlights many good qualities of the College, including the enormous range of opportunities available to our students and the exceptional care, guidance and support they receive.
