Remembrance at Thurston
Thurston Community College were proud to mark the centenary of the Armistice by creating a remembrance display in The Gallery. This was based on the soldiers of the Suffolk regiment who died in the First World War.
There were a total of 7108 fatalities from the Suffolk Regiment during WW1 and of those, 1934 were 23 years old or younger. Our aim was for every member of the College community to research and remember a specific soldier who was under 23.
Over the weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday we held assemblies and tutor time to research and design individual poppies with the assigned soldiers name and rank. There was also a daily roll call, poppy painting and poetry readings.
