#TCCTransitionTalk

  • Is your child worried about making friends when they join TCC? Are they eager to find out about the food, what clubs are on offer and how much homework they'll get? Will, Callum, Poppy & Lucy are here to answer the most common questions about starting Year 7 at Thurston in these short video clips.

Important - Please Read Before Watching

The #TransitionTalk videos were filmed in January 2022, as such information in them was correct as of then. Most notably, the College is moving to a 4 period day in September including a split lunch, so please disregard any references to the 3 period day and length of lessons. The start and end of the day will remain the same. We will be looking to re-film these videos in the new academic year!

The new timings of the College day can be found below the videos.

NEW Timings of The Day - September 2022

In September, the College will finally be able to implement its plan to change the length of lessons and move from three 100 minute lessons to four 75 minute lessons. The change is in response to student and staff feedback and has been planned for some time but delayed by the pandemic. The issue has always been how to make it work for both the Thurston and Beyton Campus. It has also given us the opportunity to introduce a split lunch. Our school is growing and over the next few years we expect to see 330 plus in each year group. As you can imagine, trying to feed over 1600 students and 200 staff at the same time is not easy. So KS3 (Years 7-9) will have an early lunch and KS4 (Years 10 & 11) will have a later lunch. The beginning and end of the day will remain the same.
